Two Days of National Mourning declared in the Dominican Republic

President Fernandez, returning from a meeting in Haiti with President Preval, has declared two days of national mourning for the people of the sister republic.

The Palace press secretary announced that Fernandez spoke with President Obama last night and the United States is in agreement with the medium and long range plans devised by the island's two presidents, that aid be delivered via both the dock and the airport in Barahona and transported overland to Port au Prince.

The dock in Port au Prince is feared unstable and the road on the approach to it has been severely damaged sot that containers cannot be offloaded.

President Fernandez also received a call from the President of Spain seeking information on coordinating aid.
